💫 Lionel Parker and the Work of Outreach in New Orleans 💫

In New Orleans, outreach work often begins with simple acts of service: preparing a meal, offering a welcoming place to rest, or helping someone find the next step toward stability. Lionel Parker is part of that daily work through St. Jude Community Center, a North Rampart Street community center known for supporting people experiencing homelessness with meals, shelter, and practical assistance.

Parker helps prepare sandwiches for lunch at the St. Jude Center, a small but meaningful example of the hands-on care that outreach teams provide every day. In a city where housing insecurity affects many residents, that kind of steady service helps connect vulnerable neighbors with food, dignity, and human contact.

Parker’s path has also included difficult chapters. He struggled with co***ne addiction and spent time in jail before rebuilding his life through service. That experience adds another layer to his outreach work: he understands how hardship, addiction, and incarceration can shape a person’s life, and he brings that perspective to his work with people seeking stability.

Parker’s work reflects a broader New Orleans tradition of community care: meeting people where they are and responding with compassion. Through outreach connected to St. Jude, he contributes to a network of people and organizations working to make sure unhoused neighbors are seen, supported, and given pathways toward stability. Lionel has remained clean and stayed out of prison for over 10 years.

Earlier this week, St. Jude Outreach delivered 60 peanut butter & jelly sandwiches, 60 fresh peaches, and several fruit smoothies to the Community Fridges at the New Orleans Healing Center on St. Claude Avenue. ❤️

Every meal shared is a reminder that small acts of kindness can make a real difference. Thank you to everyone who supports our mission to help neighbors in need throughout our community.

Together, we can make sure more of our neighbors have access to food and support when they need it most.
