Conservationists are working to bring one of North America's longest snakes back 🐍

Forty-two Eastern indigo snakes were recently released into protected habitat in Florida and Alabama as part of an ongoing effort to rebuild wild populations of the threatened species.

Eastern indigo snakes can grow up to 8 feet long and play an important role in their ecosystems as native predators. Scientists are continuing to monitor the released snakes to learn how they adapt, survive, and reproduce in the wild as recovery efforts move forward.
