Ride New Orleans

Ride New Orleans World class and equitable transit for New Orleans Transit service in the New Orleans region is not what it needs to be.
(1)

While the average New Orleanian with access to a private vehicle can reach 89 percent of the region’s jobs in 30 minutes or less, the average transit-reliant New Orleanian can only reach 12 percent of those jobs in the same 30-minute time period. That stark disparity is a severe liability for residents trying to access jobs and other essential services. 19 percent of New Orleans households – more

than twice the national average – don’t have access to a personal vehicle. With the high poverty rate in our city many other households are only one run of bad luck away from not having access to a vehicle. Ride New Orleans works to right this wrong and to win a transit system that is a linchpin in the creation of a more just, equitable, and functional city and region. Our mission is to win world-class and equitable public transportation that works for all residents across the New Orleans region

Our vision is a New Orleans region in which taking transit – by necessity or choice – enables full access to jobs, education, health care, and other needs that ensure the equitable, thriving community that all residents deserve.

Ride New Orleans is requesting that the Regional Transit Authority Board of Commissioners provide an update to the transit-riding community, stakeholders, and the public about its national search for the agency’s next Chief Executive Officer. Transit riders need to know who is vying to lead the agency.

*please note: the original date of June 6th was reflected on the kl2connects website; however, it does not reflect the RTA search timeline.

Do you ride the E201 Kenner Loop bus? Changes to the route began this week. Here’s what you need to know:

Jefferson Parish Transit and City of Kenner Government officials are excited to announce major transit improvements in Kenner that will launch this Sunday (July 26). The existing E201 Kenner Loop, a single-bus route that takes approximately one hour and 20 minutes to complete, will be replaced by two routes: the E201 Kenner Loop and the new E9 Williams Boulevard route. By dividing the existing loop into two routes, wait times will be reduced to approximately 40 minutes.

As part of this transition, fixed-route bus service will no longer operate along East and West Loyola Drive between Joe Yenni Boulevard and West Esplanade Avenue. This area will instead be served by JP Transit’s new Lyft On-Demand zone, known as “Moving Kenner,” which will provide riders with convenient curb-to-curb transportation.

"This is an exciting time for JP Transit as we expand the use of on-demand microtransit services to reduce bus wait times, improve mobility, and provide more flexible transportation options,” said Cynthia Lee Sheng - Parish President. "These innovative services are transforming how we use transit millage funding to improve public transportation for Jefferson Parish residents parish wide."

"This route audit is another great example of what can happen when Jefferson Parish and the City of Kenner work together,” said City of Kenner Mayor Mike Glaser. "Our partnership on the Kenner Loop has already led to significant capital improvements, and now it's delivering a smarter, more efficient route that will better serve the people who rely on public transit every day. We're proud to continue building a transportation system that is more reliable, effective, and responsive to our community's needs.”

All new bus stop signs have been installed and are clearly visible. For additional information about these upcoming service changes, please visit www.jptransit.org or contact JP Transit Administration directly at (504) 818-1077.
