Ride New Orleans

Ride New Orleans World class and equitable transit for New Orleans Transit service in the New Orleans region is not what it needs to be.
(1)

While the average New Orleanian with access to a private vehicle can reach 89 percent of the region’s jobs in 30 minutes or less, the average transit-reliant New Orleanian can only reach 12 percent of those jobs in the same 30-minute time period. That stark disparity is a severe liability for residents trying to access jobs and other essential services. 19 percent of New Orleans households – more

than twice the national average – don’t have access to a personal vehicle. With the high poverty rate in our city many other households are only one run of bad luck away from not having access to a vehicle. Ride New Orleans works to right this wrong and to win a transit system that is a linchpin in the creation of a more just, equitable, and functional city and region. Our mission is to win world-class and equitable public transportation that works for all residents across the New Orleans region

Our vision is a New Orleans region in which taking transit – by necessity or choice – enables full access to jobs, education, health care, and other needs that ensure the equitable, thriving community that all residents deserve.

NEW ORLEANS – The Lower Algiers–Chalmette Ferry will resume normal operations TODAY, Saturday, May 23, 2026, beginning at 6 a.m.

Ferry service was temporarily suspended following a routine inspection of the Chalmette Ferry bridge conducted by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD), during which issues were identified that required repairs at the Chalmette landing. LADOTD has since completed the necessary repairs, allowing ferry service to safely resume.

Join us for the May Coalition for Quality Transit this Saturday! We’ll be joined by special guests from the Regional Planning Commission (RPC) to discuss current projects and initiatives. Click the link in our bio or scan the QR code to RSVP.

Whether you’re able to attend on Saturday or not, please consider taking the RPC’s Metropolitan Transportation Plan Survey (swipe for details and link in bio to take survey). Below is more info about the survey:

The New Orleans Regional Planning Commission (NORPC) needs your input! Every five years, our region’s Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) is updated to reflect how people travel today and what improvements matter most to our communities. This plan guides transportation investments, sets the priorities that matter most to our communities, and outlines the steps to make it happen.

The MTP includes every type of transportation, including walking, biking, driving, public transit, rail, and more. Input received from this survey helps us better align this plan to your experience in our region.
