20 YEARS LATER, THE STORIES ARE STILL RISING.

What happens when eight playwrights turn toward a shared moment in history—and tell us something deeply human?

ECHOES OF THE STORM: 20 YEARS AFTER KATRINA brings together eight playwrights with connections stretching between New Orleans and New York to explore the lives, relationships, memories, humor, questions, and unexpected moments that live beyond the headlines.

Because no single story can hold what Katrina meant—or what these twenty years have meant.

There are stories about home and belonging.
About the people we remember and the people we’ve become.
About leaving and returning.
About family, place, culture, memory—and the funny, complicated, beautiful ways life keeps moving.

Meet the playwrights:

Sha’Condria “Icon” Sices-Sibley
Brian Egland
Jackie Alexander
Kim Sykes
Kaaron Briscoe
Lori Parquet Nick Slie Stephanie McKee-Anderson

Eight playwrights. Eight 10-minute plays. Eight distinct voices reflecting on a city, its people, and the many ways we understand home 20 years later.

This is more than commemoration.
It is remembering.
It is reckoning.
It is testimony.
It is imagination.

Because storms pass. Stories remain.

Echoes of the Storm is a collaboration between Junebug Productions and the Apollo Theater, presented in partnership with the Contemporary Arts Center as part of its Welcome to the Theater program.

New Orleans, come sit with these stories. Come laugh. Come remember. Come recognize something of yourself. And perhaps, come away thinking a little differently about what it means to call a place home.

WE’RE OPENING THE GATES.

And y’all know Junebug knows how to gather. 😉

On October 2, we’re taking it to the Dew Drop Inn for the JUNEBUG JUKE JOINT—a night of music, movement, memory, and a whole lotta joy as we celebrate the launch of STILL: JUBILEE RISING.

Because before we start talking about where we’re going, we ought to remember how we’ve always gotten there:

Together.

We’ve gathered in theaters.
On front porches.
Around kitchen tables.
In Story Circles.
In community centers.
In the streets.

And yes
 in the Juke Joint.

This one is for the folks who have been carrying the water, making the way, telling the stories, keeping the beat—and for the folks just finding their way to us.

Featuring the incomparable Sunni Patterson, DJ Dave Soul, and a few special guests we’re keeping up our sleeve. 👀

Come ready to dance.
Come ready to testify.
Come ready to see somebody you haven’t seen in too long.
Come ready to make a new friend.
