Water professionals keep our communities resilient. We're proud to prepare the next generation of skilled workers entering this essential industry.

This week our corps members and staff participated in the WEF InFLOW (Introducing Future Leaders to Opportunities in Water) program at the 2026 WEFTEC Conference. This professional development scholarship initiative from the Water Environment Federation (WEF) is designed to attract emerging talent—particularly from underrepresented groups—to the water sector.

On Saturday LAGC helped build a new raingarden at The NET The NET - Gentilly in Gentilly with Groundwork New Orleans Groundwork New Orleans and WEF organizers and conference attendees.

On Sunday corps members toured the S&WB S&WB of New Orleans waste treatment plant on Florida Ave, operated by Veolia Veolia | North America and visited the Sankofa Sankofa Community Development Corporation Wetland Park & Nature Trail.

At the conference, corps members networked with water professionals from all over the world and continued to learn about career pathways in the water industry. CMs attended many events, including a water operator skills competition, a panel of local water professionals, and a ceremony celebrating all InFlow Scholars.
We are so grateful to participate in this international professional event, thank you WEF Water Environment Federation for another amazing conference and development opportunity!

& special thanks to Alma Rocha, WEF InFLOW Program Consultant for all your help!

Week 4: Introduction to Green Infrastructure Maintenance

This week, our Corps Members kicked off their Clean Water Certification training and took a deep dive into all things Green Infrastructure (G.I.)!

CMs put their skills into action by cleaning up our community garden space and assembling our new lawn mowers to get ready for upcoming G.I. maintenance projects.
Corps Members also visited Mastodonte , where they learned about materials used in G.I. projects and toured an active stormwater project site. They also got to connect with recent LAGC alum Chrishana and see firsthand how to translate the skills they’re learning into a career in the field.

We had such an energizing visit from the Annie E. Casey Foundation Annie E. Casey Foundation The Corps Network The Corps Network and partners Philly Power Corps (PCPHL) PowerCorpsPHL , as part of our participation in Annie E. Casey’s Corps to Careers (C2C) initiative!

In addition to strategizing, planning, and sharing best practices to strengthen training-to-career pathways for our participants, we gave our guests a true look at a day in the life at Louisiana Green Corps—and a little taste of classic New Orleans.

🌱 We visited recent alum Chrishana at work with Mastodonte Mastodonte where she engages in regular green stormwater maintenance on a rain garden she helped build along the Lafitte Greenway Lafitte Greenway Partnership .

🪚 Our Crew Supervisors led the group through a hands-on woodshop tools exercise.

🤝 We brought together municipal and private employer partners for an alignment session focused on strengthening career pathways- special thanks to parksandparkways S&WB of New Orleans Landscape Architecture Firm Mastodonte

☀️ We visited our partners at FeedThe SecondLine Feed the Second Line and learned more about their work.

🍽️ And, of course, we shared some amazing New Orleans food Lil Dizzy’s Cafe and Café Reconcile !

We’re grateful for the opportunity to learn alongside incredible partners, share what’s working, and continue building stronger pathways from training to meaningful careers in resilience. 💚
