Project Ishmael - Proyecto Ismael

Project Ishmael - Proyecto Ismael Project Ishmael is a pro bono immigration legal program for children in New Orleans.

Project Ishmael is a small immigration legal clinic for children run by the nonprofit First Grace Community Alliance and located inside First Grace United Methodist Church. For more information, we can be reached at [email protected] or at (504) 233-3057. The 3 main goals of Project Ishmael are:

1) to meet some of the immigration legal needs of children in New Orleans through direct r

epresentation and education,

2) to coordinate volunteer attorneys to help meet the diverse legal needs of women and children who currently live at Hagar's House (a home for women & children, our sister project), and

3) to challenge systemic injustices that allow children and their families to be separated, harassed, deported or incarcerated based on skin color or immigration status.

Congrats to R, a fun middle-schooler who dreams of studying linguistics after high school. She won the first step of her Special Immigrant Juvenile (SIJ) case in juvenile court this week! 🎉

This is an especially welcome win as it’s been a heartbreaking year for her family since ICE recently kidnapped one of her parents while they were on the way to work. 💔

Thank you to all of you who will fight with and for her each step in her many-years-long case! And thank you to all of you who have showered her family with love, gift cards, and support in this time. ✨

Today, on Louisiana Bucket Brigade’s Down by the River bike tour in St. Charles Parish, Hagar's House NOLA and Project Ishmael staff learned more about Louisiana environmental justice movements and local African American history. 🚲

We wish we could say we got out and enjoyed the fresh air on the ride, but the air was so very polluted by petrochemical companies. Visit https://labucketbrigade.org to learn more about the Bucket Brigade’s and their community partners’ life-saving work 🌱
