Our Story
SBP - Friends of Rockaway, now SBP - NY, formed when a grassroots organization of community members pulled together on the half-mile wide Rockaway Peninsula to help their neighbors recover from Hurricane Sandy. In the five years since the storm, SBP - NY has expanded to serve Brooklyn, the Rockaways, and Queens. The organization has rebuilt over 300 homes for the storm's survivors - an average of one house rebuilt every week. Simultaneously, SBP - NY is preparing for the future with its Project Uplift home elevation program run in collaboration with The Governor's Office of Storm Recovery. SBP - NY relies on the goodwill of volunteers and donors to accomplish its mission and shepherd New York towards a full recovery!
