Here are some options if you were sexually assaulted:
GO TO THE SAFE CENTER AT INTERIM LSU HOSPITAL
2021 Perdido St. NOLA 70117
(Check in at the Emergency Room and let them know you were sexually assaulted)
• The SAFE center is a private waiting and exam room for survivors of sexual assault to get evidence collection and medical attention. Exams are performed by skilled and compassionate SANE
nurses who are specially trained in treating survivors.
• Services provided at the SAFE Center include evidence collection (up to 120 hours after incident), injury treatment, STD/pregnancy prevention, information about legal and medical options , crisis counseling and follow up care.
• The SAFE center serves anyone who has been sexually assaulted free of cost. All services are voluntary; the survivor can refuse any services they are not comfortable with.
• You are not required to report to police to access the safe center. Evidence will be retained if you chose to report later.
• If possible, avoid bathing, urinating, wiping, eating or drinking because such actions could destroy evidence. REPORT TO POLICE
Call 911
• The responding officer will verify you were sexually assaulted and call a detective from the NOPD S*x Crimes Unit to do an in-depth interview. A report can also be made from the SAFE center. TALK TO A COUNSELOR
• Whether you were r***d recently or years ago, a counselor specially trained in trauma and sexual assault can support you in healing. These agencies provide trauma-focused counseling free of cost:
