Congratulations to ACS Fellow Dr. Sundeep Keswani and the multidisciplinary team at Texas Children's Hospital on a groundbreaking achievement in fetal surgery. 👏

The team performed the first reported US procedure to treat complex gastroschisis before birth, using a minimally invasive approach at 26 weeks’ gestation. The child remained in the womb until term, established full feeds within two days, and went home just three days after birth.

While this procedure remains investigational, the milestone demonstrates the exciting potential of fetal surgery to treat certain conditions before birth and help prevent further injury.

Meet South Texas Chapter ACS Vice President, Dr. Ravi Radhakrishnan! He is a Pediatric Surgeon at the University of Texas Medical Branch Health. His time as Vice President will be used to prepare to ascend to President-Elect, then President. His main goal this year is to increase resident engagement with the South Texas Chapter ACS!

Her time serving as President-Elect will be used to prepare for when she takes over as acting president once President Dr. Santos’ term is finished!

Meet Dr. David Santos, Associate Professor at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, who is serving as South Texas ACS Chapter President. As President, he will serve as the chapter’s primary representative, fostering relationships with the American College of Surgeons and partner organizations while advocating for surgeons, communicating College initiatives, and recognizing member achievements.
