Happy National Oyster Day!

Happy National Oyster Day! We aren’t sure why this celebration takes place in a month without an “R,” but we’re here for it. This image was taken by Douglas Baz and Charles H. Traub in the early 1970s. It’s featured in the duo’s upcoming exhibition at THNOC, “Cajun Document: Acadiana, 1973-74.” Check out the companion book-length catalog here: https://www.hnoc.org/publications/books/cajun-document

Bourbon Street looks a little different these days. Bravo New Orleans for staying at home and helping to flatten the curve. We look forward to the days the streets are full of revelers again.

Our quiet view of Bourbon Street. Thank you New Orleans for staying home and helping to flatten the curve! We are all in this together, and we look forward to the day that this Bourbon Street view is a bit more familiar ❤️

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the cancellation of the 2020 New Orleans Oyster Festival. ⁣

Due to the increasing spread of COVID-19 and expanding restrictions on business operations within our community and in accordance with national, state and local governments prohibiting large group gatherings, the New Orleans Oyster Festival planned for May 30 & 31, 2020 has been cancelled. We look forward to hosting additional events supporting our oyster industry in the future.⁣

The New Orleans Oyster Festival will continue to educate the country about the benefits of the Louisiana Gulf Oyster and contribute to the economic well-being of the oyster farmers, shuckers and their families. Through these efforts, we will provide the needed support to all those who are dedicated to the restoration of the Gulf Coast, which is necessary to sustain our oyster culture.⁣

We love y’all, until we meet again, stay well and eat more oysters! ⁣
