We mourn our longtime companion and a pioneer of the American postmodern dance history, Mary Overlie, who passed away of cancer on Friday, 5 June 2020 at the age of 74.

With her “Six Viewpoints theory and practice”, she has revolutionised and influenced the entire understanding of dance and theatre to this day. As the founder of institutions such as Danspace at St. Mark's Church, Movement Research and the Experimental Theatre Wing at New York University, she has left a lasting imprint on dance beyond New York’s borders.

Mary was a tireless thinker, educator, philosopher, teacher, author, dancer, choreographer and “the original anarchist”. As co-founder of our Research Projects we were honored that Mary shared her attentive eye and inexhaustible knowledge with us from the very beginning of ImPulsTanz.

Our deepest sympathy goes out to her family and all those who mourn with us for Mary❤️.
