A good reminder to everyone of the immense challenges that families of children with autism are facing during this stressful time. LCAAS is working hard to ensure that families are still able to access ABA services and parent trainings.

The coronavirus pandemic has disrupted the reliable pace and structure of life essential to many people with autism.

LCAAS has been working closely with the Louisiana Department of Health to ensure that certain components of ABA services can be delivered via telehealth during this time of social distancing. Our mission, as always, is to improve access to high-quality ABA therapy services throughout the state of Louisiana.

Parents,

The Louisiana Coalition for Access to Autism Services (LCAAS) is a coalition of ABA therapy providers throughout Louisiana whose mission is to increase access to autism services. LCAAS has worked closely with families and providers over the past several years not only to protect sustainable reimbursement rates for ABA therapy but also to advocate for improved access to services in schools. LCAAS is currently seeking information from families about barriers to accessing autism therapy services. If your child has a diagnosis of ASD, please take 2 minutes to complete the following survey:

Additionally, to the extent that you would like to voice any concerns over inadequacy of provider networks or inadequate access to ABA therapy services, you may do so with the Louisiana Department of Insurance. The Department’s Market Conduct Division performs examinations of insurers to assure that families are being treated fairly and that rates are adequate to support a sufficient network and access to services. You may email Jeffrey Zewe, Deputy of the Office of Consumer Services ([email protected]) to voice concerns.

Today Governor John Bel Edwards signed HB 320 by Rep. Scott Simon into law. The bill prohibits school districts form denying students with Autism access to medically necessary ABA therapy services. A huge thank you to all of the parents who help shepherd the bill through by showing up at the Capitol, emailing legislators and educating our lawmakers about the need for school-based autism services.

06/03/2019

Yesterday, HB 320 by Representatives Scott Simon & Franklin Foil and Senator Danny Martiny cleared its final Hurdle in the Louisiana Legislature. Last night the Louisiana House of Representative concurred in all Senate amendments sending that bill to the Governor’s desk for final approval.

The final language of the bill, as concurred by the House, prohibits schools from denying "medically necessary behavior analysis services" to children with an autism spectrum disorder - during school hours.

The Governor has scheduled a bill signing for HB 320 this Wednesday, June 5th, 2019 on the fourth floor of the Louisiana State Capitol. The signing will be at 2 pm. Stay tuned for details. All are welcome to attend. Please RSVP to [email protected]

With only 3 weeks left in session, HB 320 and SB 78, which will enable ABA therapy providers to provide services in schools, are making their way through the process. Stay tuned for more updates!
