Getting around New Orleans shapes daily life for every one of us, and building a transportation system that works for residents of all ages, abilities, incomes, and neighborhoods is key to creating a City that works for all of us.

Tonight, we wrapped up the Streets & Transportation session of the Front Porch Lab with a stimulating discussion led by our Executive Director, Nellie Catzen, and our amazing panelists. Thank you to Shirani Jayasuriya, Allene La Spina, and Steve Nelson for sharing their time and insight with our cohort and our community this evening!

More than 50 of our neighbors joined us for our Step Up & Lead workshop on Boards and Commissions last month, and we are so grateful you came!

We help leaders lead. It's at the core of the work we've been doing for 60 years, and as we look ahead to the next 60, we're expanding our Leadership Forum to better prepare our graduates to be stewards of change in their neighborhoods and across the city.

Meet the inaugural cohort of the Front Porch Lab, a collaborative program named after the place where culture thrives and important conversations happen. From now until January 2028, these 30 residents will identify challenges in their own communities and develop actionable solutions. Later in the program, they'll come together in four working groups, each receiving $10,000 to bring its ideas to life right here at home.

We kicked off this journey last month alongside Common Ground-USAand the New Orleans Chamber of Commerce Foundation. Take a look at the photos above for some highlights from the last few sessions, and stay tuned to see what our neighbors build!

Your Resident's Guide to the 2027 Proposed Budget is here!

We know the City budget can feel confusing or out of reach, so we broke it down in plain language: how the budget gets made, where the money comes from, where it goes, and what programs are currently on the chopping block as the City works through a tough budget year.

This affects our neighborhoods directly, from sanitation and parks to public safety and community services. Budget hearings are happening now through the end of October at City Hall, and City Council is still deciding what gets funded and what gets cut.

We're proud to introduce a brand new opportunity for New Orleans leaders: the Boards & Commissions Fellowship.

Every day, local and statewide boards and commissions make decisions that shape our neighborhoods, yet the people most affected by those decisions are too often missing from the room. This 6-month fellowship is designed to change that, giving everyday New Orleanians the training, mentorship, and confidence to step into public service roles and make their voices heard.

Fellows will attend monthly full-day training sessions covering everything from local government basics to public records law to effective communication, all building toward real, values-aligned leadership in our community.

This is the inaugural New Orleans cohort of a statewide program offered in partnership with Serve Louisiana. No political experience required, just a desire to serve your community.

The City of New Orleans is launching a Sales Tax Amnesty Program starting October 1, giving businesses and taxpayers a limited-time opportunity to resolve delinquent tax obligations.

It's time to spotlight our alumni!

This week, meet Kahlida Nicole Lloyd: a member of our 2018 Leadership Forum graduating class and former Director of Human Rights and Equity for the City of New Orleans, where she helped implement mayoral priorities and citywide initiatives designed to advance equity and improve residents' quality of life. Her work focused on developing programs that expanded access to city services and created more inclusive outcomes for communities.

Today, Kahlida is doing excellent work as a Senior Attorney at Environmental Defense Fund, where she represents EDF before the Louisiana Public Service Commission, New Orleans City Council, and in regional transmission planning processes.

We're proud to call her one of our own!
