The little girl that changed it all!!!!!
Some know the story, so here it goes for those that don't. Missy back in 2018 was owned by my neighbor. She was only a year old and her owner was the most irresponsible person in every way possible. I would hear Missy crying at 3am most nights to be let in the house. I would send text messages and call the owner to tell her to bring her dog in the house and to do better. Missy would escape (who could blame her) I would go in the backyard in the middle of the night, for her to settle. The owner who knew everything about the "pitbull" dog lines.... a little sketchy if you ask me.....
One day the owner informed me that Missy was missing. I seemed to be more worried than she was. She said "she will find her way back". I then found out that a neighbor who was so tired of this poor girl always roaming around and felt she deserved better, took her to the shelter. Once I was told this, I went and signed up to be a volunteer at the shelter to keep eyes on her.
The shelter called several times and the owner never showed.
I went every week to see if she was adopted and if she was doing ok. I promised her I would look out for her. After a month of no interest, i adopted her out, promising again a far better life than the one she had been living. And the funny thing is i now had the neighbor's dog legally adopted to me and hiding her from being seen. Living right next door. LOL
This is where I started to realize that so many in the shelters had similar stories and needed someone to advocate for them. I didnt quite realize what I was starting, but thorugh this little girl, Cane Haven Rescue was created.
Missy was adopted by an amazing family that she became the sister mate of other pups in the home. She became a friend to a family full of children to love and a baby girl her mom and dad absolutely adore and spoil.
This is my hope and prayer everyday for all animals finding themselves in Missy's place. That someone can be their advocate. Someone become the bridge from a pass to overcome and a future to thrive and be loved.
Today she came to visit me at the new place we are building. Cane Haven is building a sanctuary to call home to many forgotten, left behind and needing someone to fight for them.
