Today, on Juneteenth, we recognize the resilience, achievements, and lasting impact of Black Americans who have shaped our nation’s history and continue to strengthen our communities.

Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when the last enslaved people in the United States learned of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. As we reflect on this important moment in history, we also reaffirm our commitment to advancing equity, opportunity, health, and justice for all.

SB 157 has been signed into law, creating a framework for six weeks of paid parental leave for public and charter school employees. While the policy still requires funding before educators can access the benefit, this marks meaningful progress toward ensuring teachers can care for a new child without sacrificing financial stability.

The Louisiana Time to Care Coalition is proud to have worked alongside educators, advocates, and policymakers to advance this effort and remains committed to securing the funding needed to make paid parental leave a reality for Louisiana teachers.

Our Program Manager of Clinical Transformation, Van Le, joined national health leaders at the Civitas Networks for Health® Annual Fly-In to elevate the role of community-driven health data infrastructure in federal policy conversations.

Across meetings with policymakers, a clear theme emerged: health information exchange supports healthcare affordability, payment reform, and cost control for patients, providers, and government—built on years of trusted collaboration.

The experience reinforced a shared reality: fragmented health data leads to fragmented care, and improving outcomes depends on systems that better connect data, providers, and communities.

Through networks like PelEX, LPHI’s health information exchange, providers help shape how data sharing supports real-world care and patient needs. Learn more about PelEX at pelexhie.org.
