In just two years we've served more than 6,700 community members, hosted over 40 local LGBTQ+ groups, and provided hundreds of hours of free mental health counseling. Help us keep that momentum up!
The work we do at the New Orleans Pride Center is more important than ever. Did you know we are the only LGBTQ+ community center that serves all ages and identities within 300 miles in any direction? From our weekly youth groups to our free counseling service, our programs are literal lifelines.
Your gift means we can keep growing: expanding to have more drop-in hours, bringing on staff to support our programs, and giving more much-needed help to community members. We know it's cliché, but every little bit truly does make a huge difference. tinyurl.com/givenolapride
Want to hear more about the impact of our work? Here are some words from board member Spencer Staggers-Elmore, who has been leading our weekly in-person youth groups for months now.
"I work closely with LGBTQ+ youth at our center and in the downtown area through our "Express Yourself" collaboration with the New Orleans Library. To put it simply, we know that being a teenager is challenging, but for teens in New Orleans who identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community, those challenges can be even greater. Many participants have shared with me that they either experience some level of homelessness or have difficult relationships with their caregivers, leading to feelings of distrust and a lack of safety in their homes. As a result, they often rely on their communities for support and safety."
Our Pride Center not only provides safe spaces for our youth, but I have also received firsthand testimonials from them about how much they enjoy the activities offered. It truly allows them to be themselves and engage in pursuits that help distract them from the challenges in life that no young person should have to endure. The center fosters a sense of community, enabling people to connect with one another and express themselves freely. I have witnessed many kids feel heard and validated here, which is crucial given the numerous challenges they face."
