Farm pics for your Friday feed! We may be on a short program break before we start back for summer fun, but life is bustling around the farm. Our meadow is full of vibrant blooms, our fields abundant with late spring and summer veggies, and we have had some ducks and kittens visiting us! At Grow Dat, we are a farm without fences, and our location in the park makes this a true community space. If you are out and about this weekend, take a walk around our farm and see for yourself all the beauty born from the hard work of our young leaders.

Something we've been really proud of on the farm is the growth of our native meadow (you may have noticed from all our posting, or been introduced to its magic at the farm dinner scavenger hunt)!! Our crews, interns, staff, and volunteers have worked hard to rewild this beautiful space on the farm, first clearing out the invasive w**ds and then planting seeds of indigenous species in their place. This is just the first of multiple projects Grow Dat has dreamed up in the hopes of increasing land diversity and climate resiliency both on our farm and across the city. If you are interested in supporting more of this work, support Grow Dat's young leaders this GiveNOLA Day, early giving starts Tuesday, April 28th!!

We are really proud of the work we have done rewilding on the farm this year, line in our recently bloomed Native Meadow!

In growing the meadow, we first covered the area to remove the grass and w**ds, uncovered and exposed to the sun, and then covered again to ensure we started w**d free! Next, we mixed the seeds with sawdust to help carry them through the seeding process and then spread them across the meadow. By removing invasives and planting native plants, we support a more biodiverse range of insects and animals. These areas can also help absorb stormwater, keep our city cool, and are of course, beautiful to look at! Spot the Pink Primrose and Bachelor’s Button among the field of Buttercups!
