Crescent City Outreach, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to assisting the homeless population of New Orleans. One of its primary functions is to provide funds to the Homeless Assistance Unit of the New Orleans Police Department, which serves as a first responder to homeless persons stranded in the streets. The Homeless Assistance Unit receives zero funds from the Police Depar
tment or the City to enhance its services to the homeless. It relies totally on Crescent City Outreach to be able to make purchases of small but extremely useful items, such as Louisiana State ID’s, shelter vouchers, food, clothing, personal hygiene items, doctors’ prescriptions, and much more — whatever it takes to supply the homeless with the first immediate necessities to transition from the street back into society. Crescent City Outreach receives most of its donations from individuals who have a desire to help the homeless but do not know how best to make their contributions count. Funds channeled through Crescent City Outreach go directly to the homeless right on the spot, when some small item can make all the difference. One day it might be just a cold drink or a pair of socks. Another day it might be a bus ticket back to the family home somewhere across the country, when that is deemed the most appropriate solution. If you would like to contribute to Crescent City Outreach, please click on the Paypal link on the website at www.crescentcityoutreach.org. All donations are tax-deductible and will be greatly appreciated by the homeless who are struggling to get back on their feet. Another way to help is to purchase a “Flying Signs” book! It is a collection of prints of some of the more humorous and outrageous cardboard signs which homeless persons in New Orleans have created. The proceeds from the book go straight back to assisting the homeless via Crescent City Outreach. It is available at the Frenchmen Art Market at 619 Frenchmen Street, New Orleans, open Thursday-Monday, 7 pm to 1 am.
