The Arts Administrators of Color Network is an organization committed to empowering and supporting BIPOC-identifying artists and arts administrators.

AAC advocates for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) artists and arts administrators through professional development, mentoring, creating resources within ourselves and the communities we represent, and community building for better representation in the arts.

We’re heading to the AEP Annual Convening! ✨ Join AAC’s Erika Hawthorne and Nafeesah Symonette of DEYA: Detroit Excellence in Youth Arts for an interactive affinity space designed to connect BIPOC and Global Majority-identifying artists and arts administrators.

As members of AEP’s Advisory Council, Erika and Nafeesah will create space to reflect on your leadership journey, share what you need (and what you can offer!), and build connections with peers across roles and regions.

If you are going to be in Jacksonville, FL this week for AEP, we'll see you there!

Today is Give 8/28, a national day of giving dedicated to supporting Black-led and Black-benefiting organizations.

As we close out Black Philanthropy Month, AAC Board Member Tenaja Jordan reminds us that investing in Black organizations is about more than sustaining programs, it’s about protecting our stories, strengthening our institutions, and ensuring we have the resources to shape our own futures.

In our latest blog, Tenaja reflects on the urgency of this moment, the cultural workers and organizations that have shaped her own journey, and why she chose to invest her time and leadership in AAC.

AAC Executive Director Erika Hawthorne recently joined Sitar Arts Center’s Bloomberg Arts Internship graduation to celebrate and share reflections with the next generation of leaders.

A few reflections we hope the cohort, and all of us, carry forward:

- Relationships matter. Surround yourself with people who share your values, challenge you, inspire you, and help you grow.
- Always look ahead. Always reach back. Have people you’re learning from and people you’re encouraging along the way.
- Community is necessary and reciprocal. It’s powerful because of what it can do for us and what we can give back.
- Stay connected. Share what you’re learning as you go. Bring others along with you. Because thriving lives and fulfilling careers aren’t built in isolation. They’re built in community. 💛

As an arts and culture sector, we should all be asking: What are we doing to ensure our organizations and cultures are ready to welcome, support, and invest in this incredible next generation of arts leaders?

Last week, AAC and National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures gathered in Los Angeles for an evening of conversation, relationship-building, and joy. From new introductions and shared experiences to thoughtful discussions, the gathering was a reminder that strong cultural ecosystems are built through community.

A special thank you to AAC Board Members Alyssa M. Garcia and Deliasofia Zacarias, NALAC President & CEO Mari Hernandez, and everyone who joined us to make the evening so meaningful. We’re also grateful to Lucy Thompson and Pez Cantina for sharing local flavors and chili powder tastings, making the gathering feel more special.

As we continue navigating a rapidly changing arts landscape, opportunities to connect remain more important than ever. Thank you to all who joined us.

10 moments from 10 years. ✨ A decade of AAC is a decade of people showing up. Showing up for one another. Showing up to build something that many of us wished existed when we were starting our careers.

Over the last 10 years, that commitment has helped create affinity spaces, professional development opportunities, mentorship, networking, and a national community for arts administrators of color.

As we celebrate this milestone, we’re also thinking about what it takes to sustain this work. This work doesn't happen on its own. It requires resources, care, and collective investment.

That's why we've launched our 10-Year Anniversary Capital Campaign with a goal of raising $10,000 by July 1.
