We’re excited to welcome Mason Wu on April 19th to perform on a very special instrument.

The Guzheng is a traditional Chinese string instrument that dates back over 2,500 years to ancient China. It belongs to the zither family, meaning the strings stretch across a long wooden soundboard without a neck. Musicians pluck the strings with finger picks, creating flowing, harp-like tones that can also bend and vibrate for expressive sound.

For non-musicians, the guzheng can be thought of as a cross between a harp and a piano—it has many strings like a harp, but they are laid flat on a table-like body and plucked with the fingers. The result is a shimmering, cascading sound often used in Chinese classical and folk music. 🎶
