On Saturday, over 700 students came out to volunteer with Outreach Tulane! Students volunteered with 20 different organizations around New Orleans and participated in projects such as gardening, organizing school supplies, handing out food, and cleaning up buildings that were destroyed during Hurricane Ida. The day of service was a huge success and we want to thank all organizations, students, and leaders that helped out in planning this event. Our goal was to do our part in helping New Orleans recover post-Ida and that was definitely achieved!
Some of the fantastic organizations that we worked with included New Orleans City Park, Hagar's House, Habitat for Humanity, SOLITARY GARDENS, Edible Schoolyard New Orleans, Common Ground Relief, Broadmoor Improvement Association, Young Audiences Charter Schools, A Community Voice - Louisiana, New Orleans Museum of Art, Friends of Lafitte Greenway, and Hollygrove-Dixon Neighborhood Association.
Finally, a HUGE shoutout to the 2021 Outreach Tulane Board! They began working on this event in April and despite many setbacks due to Hurricane Idea, they managed to pull off a fantastic event! Board members include Mollie Sloter (Chair), Bridget Lindgren and Alexa Fuhrer (Community Partners Coordinators), Rebecca Douglas and Sam Rawlins (PR and Marketing), Michael Yang and Olivia Rosenberg (Project Coordinators), Katie McCormick and Shalini Kishore (Logistics), and Aiden Brotman (Donations).
