We Are The Coalition Campaigning to Ban Mule-Drawn Carriage Rides in New Orleans, LA. They are not properly cared for... Handlers ride them hard, long distances daily... work in congested city traffic, poor weather conditions, carry hefty people around the city, chained, tired, thirsty, hungry, often foaming at the mouth, then sleep in tight spaces...
We ask the City of New Orleans to FORM and SU
PPORT A BILL that will PROHIBIT THE OPERATION OF MULE DRAWN CARRIAGE RIDES IN THE CITY OF NEW ORLEANS. NOTE: This petition is not only about the horse that died on Bourbon. I personally have taken dozens of photos, made numerous reports and deal with these handlers daily. He only died in the public eye. He was not licensed as the others are, which is the excuse mule carriage companies keep choosing to use. We have been watching the carriage rides for years and we of aware of the cruelty and we want it to stop. Carriage rides are nothing more than entertainment for profit. Would you want to be their slave? I wouldn't. We need to speak up for the weak and the voiceless. They have nobody else. Even though some carriage companies claim they treat their mules well and follow the law, it is still animal cruelty. Laws are made because people make them. They are not always right. We will change the law. Please Sign... http://www.change.org/petitions/campaign-to-ban-mule-drawn-carriages-in-new-orleans
OUR FIRST PROTEST was held JAN. 14, 2012 Along the Decatur Street side of Jackson Square where Carriages line up..., New Orleans, LA http://www.facebook.com/events/286653351382409/
On December 18, 2011 A white horse fell and died in front of 733 Bourbon street, NEW ORLEANS. The horse went into a seizure, fell, got back up, then fell again and died. The handler quickly took off the horses saddle and reins...
The handler claims this was not a work horse but several witnesses say he worked the horse hard for 12 hours a day Thurs - Sun. Some often made complaints about the cruelty. Citizens that know the truth are outraged.
