826 New Orleans

826 New Orleans 826 New Orleans (formerly Big Class) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to cultivating and suppor We run a writing studio on St. Claude Ave.

Big Class's mission is to cultivate and support the voices of New Orleans' writers ages 6-18 through creative collaborations with schools and communities. that hosts free workshops and homework help, and create in-school projects in collaboration with teachers that enrich writing experiences through publishing and volunteer support. Our work is grounded in the understanding that writing is at the

core of a thriving community, and that student writing in a purposeful context can pave the way to a brighter future. Through a project-based approach that engages community members as an audience for student writing, young writers produce tangible end-products they can be proud of, inspiring them to write more, write better, and write enthusiastically. www.bigclass.org

WOW! Tuesday night was incredible. We celebrated our newest publication “Letters to the Mayor”, a collection of poems, essays, and letters written by 6th graders at to city decision makers. Students were able to directly share their thoughts on stage with District D councilman during a panel discussion and we got to hear a sneak peak of some of the writing in the book right after. “Letters to the Mayor” is available for pre-order now! Visit our website to get your copy.

The party continued with our Pizza Poet Laureates hopping on the mic to share their poems and a time for us to celebrate all of our amazing community partners and dedicated volunteers. These parties are really a reminder of why we do what we do and we cannot thank everyone enough for rocking with us Tuesday night!

Shoutout to Alex for recording the kids stories and to Vance + team for the delicious spread.

GIVENOLA EARLY GIVING IS LIVE!

Our alternative, arts-integrated literacy approach not only cultivates imagination and creativity in students, but builds confident people who excel in their ability to powerfully articulate their own stories. In the past year, 90 percent of the students we served identified as writers.

GiveNOLA early giving is here and because of our generous match donor, your contribution will be MATCHED!
