We are grateful for the partnership and candid dialogue with the New Orleans Police & Justice Foundation and the NOPD.
The conduct in question does not reflect who we are as an organization or the values we have upheld since 1924. Mardi Gras depends on mutual respect between riders, officers, and the community. When that standard is not met, we take it seriously.
We have begun a thorough internal review and are committed to identifying those responsible. Anyone found to have violated our code of conduct will no longer be part of this organization. Accountability is essential to preserving the integrity of our parade and the safety of everyone involved.
We appreciate the leadership of our city officials and law enforcement partners as we work together on stronger safeguards, clearer expectations, and meaningful reforms. This moment will lead to improvements that benefit riders, officers, and spectators alike.
The Krewe of Carrollton stands firmly in support of the men and women who protect our route each year. Respect for them, and for our city, is not optional.
Forward together.
Krewe of Carrollton
Forward, March. ⚜
The NOPJF, which proudly supports New Orleans law enforcement, met with the leadership of the Krewe of Carrollton following Sunday’s Mardi Gras incident in which one or more riders aggressively threw beads at NOPD officers.
Krewe leadership expressed their sincere apologies and made clear their commitment to making this right. They have reached out to the Mayor and City Councilmembers requesting meetings to ensure transparency and accountability. The Krewe is conducting an internal investigation. While the NOPD has announced it will not pursue criminal charges, the Krewe has vowed to identify those responsible and confirmed they will never ride with the organization again.
The NOPJF was infuriated by the reckless actions of the offending rider(s), a sentiment shared by , Mayor and City Council President Such behavior is unacceptable. It undermines the spirit of Mardi Gras, as well as the partnerships that make our celebrations possible.
However, the actions of an individual rider should not tarnish the reputation of more than 600 riders who, with pride and respect, uphold the traditions of the fourth-oldest krewe in New Orleans. Mardi Gras is a true partnership between public safety officials, krewes, and the community.
The NOPJF is working with the Krewe of Carrollton to develop a roadmap to increase rider accountability and create a safer riding experience for officers, participants, and spectators alike. Together, we are brainstorming immediate and long-term solutions - including the use of technology, clearer rider standards, and enhanced enforcement mechanisms - to ensure that something like this never happens again.
While actions must be taken to prevent this type of behavior, this incident has sparked meaningful conversations that will strengthen safety measures moving forward. The NOPJF and the are united in ensuring all future parades are safer as a result of this moment, and respect for our officers remains non-negotiable.
We stand firmly with and remain committed to protecting both the integrity of Mardi Gras and the safety of those who serve our city.
