Had to share this awesome story from an organization that we really admire!
Balanced Bullies Rescue and Rehabilitation rescued this man's dog when all seemed lost and then four years later, gave him back. This story made us gasp. So much respect to BBRR for doing the right thing. From co-founder John Spark's page:
__
"Tyson came into our lives just over 4 years ago. We pulled him from the Orange County Animal Shelter just minutes before he was scheduled to be euthanized.
Tyson was never an unwanted dog, but after being raised from a puppy and dearly loved by his original owner for the first 3 years of his life, they all lost their single family home due to circumstances beyond their control.
As fate would have it, Pit Bulls are pre-judged in many areas; nobody would allow Tyson's young owner to rent an apartment, simply because he had a Pit Bull.
His owner made exhaustive efforts to find housing, a rescue, friend, family member or anyone that could take his dog in, but no one was able to help him.
Long story short, Tyson ended up on Death Row by no fault of his own. We just happened to be pulling another dog from that same shelter (another Death Row dog) on the day his euthanasia was scheduled to happen, so we pulled Tyson as well.
Tyson's original owner was elated that his dog was safe, and has been in contact with us from the beginning. He sent us puppy pictures, told us his whole story and has been following Tyson's story closely since.
We never adopted Tyson out through our rescue, as he has always held a special spot in our hearts. I've also always considered him to be a dog that was "owned" by someone that loved him very much, someone that would want him back if his situation ever allowed for it.
The original owner contacted me recently, shortly after he signed papers on the house he was finally able to purchase. He wanted to know if I would ever consider letting him adopt Tyson........he has thought about and missed HIS dog every day for the past 4+ years.
I told him, "Buddy, you can have YOUR dog back".
He had to run through the full adoption process, including background and home checks. Our OC friend Dana Clapper took care of the home check and will be there to help the owner. She happens to know Tyson VERY well, as she has been involved since the beginning, and has spent a lot of time with him here with us in WA.
We've already had some that want to judge us for adopting a surrendered dog back to the original owner...........I would ask that you consider that we have done our due diligence. We know the full story. I have not shared every detail. We LOVE Tyson and would never put him in a bad situation.
His owner is making the 17 hour drive (one way) to personally pick Tyson up; he arrives this morning. There will be tears shed. Tears of joy, and tears of sadness.
Tyson is going HOME. He will still be a part of OUR family, as will his owners. We are in contact with them often, and I will see them in September when I am in S. CA. We back every dog for life.
This was the RIGHT thing to do."
