Some stories come full circle.
Years ago, Bear Williams was an incredibly talented, eager young musician marching with The Roots of Music Marching Crusaders. At that young age, his drive and leadership abilities were already evident. He served as section leader for The Marching Crusaders, for the O. Perry Walker High School band, for the Southern University Human Jukebox, and for the whole SWAC conference.
He later returned to The Roots of Music, this time as Band Director, guiding students along the same path he once marched himself. For countless young musicians, Mr. Bear became not just a teacher but a steady presence who served as both mentor and role model. He challenged students to strive for excellence while never forgetting where they came from.
Now, Mr. Bear begins an exciting new chapter as Head Arranger for his alma mater, the legendary Southern University Human Jukebox.
His journey from Marching Crusader to Band Director to one of the most respected positions in collegiate band culture is a testament to his talent and commitment to the art form he loves.
We are incredibly proud of all that Mr. Bear has accomplished and grateful for everything he has given to The Roots of Music over the years. His impact will be felt in the lives of the young people he helped shape for years to come.
Congratulations, Mr. Bear. Thank you for helping write such an important chapter in the story of The Roots of Music. We can't wait to watch you shine in this new role. We are so proud of you.
💛🖤 Once a Crusader, always a Crusader. 💙💛
