Charles L. “Chuck” Mutz, LA License 748-19, has worked in the auction industry for more than 30 years. His father, Tim Mutz, founded ServCorp International, Inc. (originally named Sencore Auction Service) in 1976. Working for a traditional auction company, Chuck called bids on almost everything, from antiques to cranes to – literally – kitchen sinks.
In 2009, the Krewe of Orpheus asked him to participate in the 13th Night Celebration benefitting the George Rodrigue Foundation of the Arts. His energy and enthusiasm caught the attention of Jacque Rodrigue, and from that moment, Chuck found his calling. Since then, he and his team have assisted with hundreds of benefit events that have raised millions of dollars for worthwhile causes, including the Rodrigue Foundation, American Cancer Society and Habitat for Humanity.
In early 2017, Chuck earned his Benefit Auctioneer Specialist (BAS) Certification and is the only full time, full service BAS Auctioneer in Louisiana. BAS Auctioneers must meet specific qualifications, undergo specialized training and participate in continuing education. With this, Black Tie Auctions’ team is the only BAS Certified company in Louisiana that brings consulting, traditional and mobile bidding services, consignment items, revenue enhancers and other key ideas and services to increase donor participation.
With the Coronavirus comes the need for out of the box thinking. Chuck is working with several organizations to put the Live Auction on-line. Using Zoom, WebEx and other web based conference services, the Black Tie Auctions team can host a Virtual Fundraiser and stream the program to Facebook and YouTube all while using the Mobile Bidding sites, such as Givergy, GiveSmart and GreaterGiving to capture bidder information in real time.
