A Message to Our Parade Participants and Members:
The Irish Channel St. Patrick’s Day Parade has a long and proud tradition as one of the most family-friendly and neighborhood-centered celebrations in New Orleans. Generations of families gather along the route each year to celebrate Irish heritage, community spirit, and the joy of St. Patrick’s Day.
Every member, marcher, rider, and float lieutenant shares the responsibility of protecting that tradition.
To ensure that our parade remains welcoming for everyone, the Irish Channel Parade maintains a zero-tolerance policy for inappropriate throws or behavior. Any participant found distributing or throwing inappropriate items, or engaging in behavior that undermines the spirit of the parade, will be immediately removed from the parade and may not be permitted to return in the future.
Items that are not permitted include, but are not limited to:
• Materials that are racist or discriminatory toward any group
• Sexually explicit or suggestive items
• Offensive or vulgar objects or language
• Any item intended to embarrass, antagonize, or harm another person
If you’re unsure whether something is appropriate, ask yourself one simple question:
Would you feel comfortable if your mother, your child’s teacher, or your neighbor saw you on the evening news explaining why you threw it?
If the answer is no, then it does not belong in our parade.
This celebration is about family, tradition, and community. Children line the streets alongside parents, grandparents, and friends. The smiles, laughter, and traditions we share are what make the Irish Channel St. Patrick’s Day Parade so special.
Let’s work together to keep that spirit strong and make this year’s parade one that our entire community can be proud of.
💚 Sláinte and see you on the route.
