St. Bernard Parish Officials Celebrate completion of the Submerged Roads Project
Bike lanes installed on streets
Parish President Guy McInnis and Councilmembers Wanda Alcon, Monty Montelongo and Howard Luna were on hand for a Ribbon Cutting of several streets in the Submerged Roads Project. Also in attendance were Judge Robert Klees, Susan Klees and representatives of Digital Engineering, Hard Rock and Regional Planning Commission.
The project improved segments of roadway throughout Arabi, Chalmette, Meraux and Violet. Damaged roads, corresponding sidewalks, driveways and curbs were removed and replaced. The project also included construction of catch basins, manholes and other drainage infrastructure. Lastly, bikeway facilities were installed on some streets in accordance with the Parish’s current bikeway and trails plan. These upgrades were funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
The Contractor for the project is Hard Rock Construction, LLC and the Engineer Digital Engineering and Imaging, Inc. The following streets were completed with bike paths and striping:
