Vieux Carré elegance in iron. In the Vieux Carré, architecture often reveals itself in the details. This elaborate cast-iron entrance gate, framed by substantial granite piers, is a striking example of the neighborhood’s distinctive architectural language. Notice how the gate echoes the cast-iron fence above the stucco chain wall, while the granite cap provides a quiet visual foundation. Even an entrance can become a work of art.

New Orleans has been selected as one of America’s Most Irreplaceable Places, a designation recognizing historic places whose preservation is essential to our nation’s cultural heritage. These places tell the stories of our past, strengthen our communities, and deserve thoughtful stewardship for future generations.
The Vieux Carré is a cornerstone of that legacy. At the Vieux Carré Commission Foundation, we are proud to support the preservation, education, and advocacy efforts that help protect the French Quarter’s unique architectural and cultural significance—ensuring this irreplaceable place continues to inspire generations to come.
