Black History Month:
Marie Laveau, Marie Catherine Laveau (September 10, 1801 – June 15, 1881) was a Louisiana Creole practitioner of Vodou, herbalist and midwife who was renowned in New Orleans.
Her daughter, Marie Laveau II, (1827–c. 1862), of whom this is a photo, also practiced rootwork, conjure, Native American and African spiritualism as well as Louisiana Vodou. An alternate spelling of her name, Laveaux, is considered by historians to be from the original French spelling.

📅 Jan. 19, from 7-9 p.m.: Join the SPLC, Loyola University New Orleans College of Law and ERASE The BOARD Coalition, a local grassroots organization, for a virtual workshop to learn about your child's special education rights in New Orleans Public Schools!

We will also host an in-person legal aid clinic for parents needing legal assistance on Feb. 28 at the Loyola Law School. The legal clinics will assist low-income families in New Orleans Parish with civil legal issues in special education and school discipline cases.

The Gulf of Mexico has the potential to generate almost 510,000 megawatts of offshore wind energy per year. That is twice the current energy need of all five Gulf states, and larger than the potential offshore wind capacity of the Pacific Coast and the Great Lakes combined.
