Today we are recognizing our Founder & CEO, Monalisa Hunter.

Mona Lisa is New Orleans born and raised!! She spent her early years in the Iberville Housing Project and relocated to the Melpomene Projects in New Orleans, La. She was educated at Booker T Washington high school. She is the mother of 4 children: Markeisha, Markee, Narkee, and Arsenio She is also known as “Maw Maw” to her 11 grandkids. She has been employed in Table Games at the local casinos for 24 years and currently holds the position of Floor Supervisor at Harrah’s New Orleans. In her free time, she is all about having fun and enjoying life to the fullest. She enjoys hanging with family, friends, and coworkers and LOVES to party.
She experienced the tragic loss of her sons Markee (19) and Arsenio (16) on June 17, 2006. Who were consumed by gun violence. Gun violence has also claimed the lives of her brothers, her nephews, cousins and close friends. These impactful losses have fueled a fire for advocacy within her heart.
She founded Tears of a Mother, LLC in remembrance of her children. She turned her pain into purpose and found her passion for advocacy. This led to her developing ways to rebuild families in the community. A main goal is to help families during their tragic losses and let them know that continued support is available. Ms Hunter plans to advocate for the community and create a safe place for families. Her initiatives include helping families find financial resources, creating a positive impact for our youth, mothers, and senior citizens. She is an advocate for gun reform and hoping to lead a charge in seeking changes.
Her 2024 events calendar is loaded up as she has several events planned to better assist her in reaching the community and listening to their needs and concerns.

In honor of Women’s History month, we Honor our CEO Mona Lisa Hunter and cannot wait to see her year unfold.
