Black Philanthropy Day with BIMS was nothing short of phenomenal!

From meaningful conversations to new connections and much-needed opportunities for collaboration, our evening at the Aquarium of the Pacific reminded us exactly what can happen when community and scientists come together. โœจ

We were also honored to have Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson join us and help amplify the importance of supporting and uplifting diverse voices in marine science. ๐ŸŒŠ

Thank you to everyone who showed up, shared space with us, supported our mission, and helped make the evening so special. Weโ€™re leaving Long Beach inspired, energized, and already thinking about whatโ€™s next. ๐Ÿ‘€

One thing is for sureโ€ฆ this wonโ€™t be our last West Coast event! ๐ŸŒŠ๐ŸŽฌ

Every session brings a new perspective, every conversation can open a new door, and every connection is an opportunity to grow. Your next collaboration, mentor, research opportunity, career move, or new marine science bestie could start with one introduction.

Come for the science. Stay for the community. Leave with connections that last well beyond the Summit. ๐Ÿ’™

Your moment is now. Your future self will thank you.

๐Ÿง A new study found that more than 95% of African penguins at two major South African breeding colonies died between 2004 and 2012, with researchers pointing to starvation as sardine populations disappeared.

African penguins depend on sardines to build up enough energy to survive their annual ~21-day moulting period, when theyโ€™re stuck on land and unable to feed. But with climate change and overfishing reducing their food supply, many simply arenโ€™t making it.

And this isnโ€™t just happening in two colonies. African penguin populations have declined by nearly 80% in just 30 years.

๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿ’ฌ What if we could actually understand what s***m whales are saying?

Scientists across linguistics, robotics, artificial intelligence, and marine biology are working together to make that possibility closer to reality.

Project CETI team have made major breakthroughs in recording, analyzing, and beginning to decode s***m whale communication. By combining technology with years of research, their work is helping us better understand how these incredible animals communicate and connect.
