“I started Little Kitchen because I love to cook & to feed people! It's also an opportunity to foster community not only with the people who eat my food, but also community with the people I cook & work with.

“I cook what I know & what I like. I’m really cooking for me, I’m just sharing it with y’all. So everything I make is informed by my culture & my life by default. There is no other way for me, really.

“I'm just happy to get to be a part of events like this one. I'm always in awe of how amazing everyone is and how people show up for each other. It's beautiful to see & to experience.”

03/04/2022

In the treatment room, I am often told stories of others' traumas. These can be mild to extreme, they can come within moments of being on my table or months of mutual trust. I don’t take these moments lightly.

When I started my company I wanted to create something restorative & unique that did not exist in any space I had been. I wanted a space where all could feel welcome & inclusive without the performative culture I see happening currently; to nourish anyone that walked into my studio.

Creating a grounding space where anyone can fall asleep, cry, yell, vent—this is invaluable to me. I am currently enrolled in a Trauma-Informed Care Training Course so that I can better navigate these moments, not simply empathizing or intellectualizing, but making sure their care is individual to them. I try to think of every session as not just “skincare” but “emotional care” as well.

Culturally I am New Orleans born & raised, from a very non-traditional nuclear family. My godparents helped in raising me & my younger brothers. I think my intuition, resilience, & healing nature come from both sides of my family having experienced much hardship.

Everyone in my immediate family suffers from a mental illness; I feel lucky that I am able to navigate my own mental health (PTSD and anxiety) & manage it in a healthy way.

There needs to be more professional training and/or regulation with regards to mental health in the wellness space if one is using this as a marketing tool for their business. Not Instagram hashtags & profile soundbites—it comes off as insensitive & trite. Real wellness is complete care for the WHOLE (holistic) community.

03/03/2022

Nothing is wrong with going to speak to a counselor or therapist. Growing up in an African American community here in New Orleans, it was looked down on.

As I have gotten older, I see that everyone has something going on with them personally. Sometimes, just speaking with someone about an issue is a weight lifted. My advice is, Talk to someone because we can’t always handle everything by ourselves.

I went into social work because when I was 12 my mother was killed. I remember going to a counselor & telling her how angry and confused about how my mother was not going to be here for me. The counselor showed me that it wasn’t my fault or hers & that I still had a support system. This event was the turning point in my life & when I knew I wanted to help people experiencing the same anger & grief I felt. I knew I wanted to help individuals that felt like me: alone.

These are the reasons why I went into social work to advocate for individuals who might not be able to advocate for themselves.

Bianca is one of our healers & one of the brightest lights! ✨ She is a native New Orleanian, has a Master's Degree in social work, & has run group therapy sessions for our community. She also is founder of Nothing Normal Fitness, which serves the community by encouraging healthy lifestyles. She says movement is beneficial to your body as it strengthens your muscles and helps relieve stress. The first thing she does to manage stress & anxiety?

"Breathe. In doing any activity first we must go to a quiet place, close our eyes, & inhale and exhale. Breathing reduces your stress levels, reduces depression, & helps with chronic pain. Then I move on to a workout & then stretching. Doing a combination everyday of breathing, working out, & stretching can manage your health mentally & physically."

Bianca will be with us this Sunday for our Recharge, Rejuvenate & Relax event  lock in the date, spread the word, share ✨ save ✨ like ✨ this post & we’ll see you Sunday to share in healing & community 🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡
