This is why we do rescue. This is why we need your support.
We run solely on donations, and because of your support, stories like Cosmo's and Popeye's get the happy endings they deserve.
Back in April, a single terrified puppy came into the shelter. I was there picking up other puppies and decided to take him with us. We named him Popeye. He slowly started coming out of his shell, but I could tell he was sad because something was missing. Not long after, we learned about a dog that had come into the shelter from the same location. She had recently had puppies, looked just like Popeye, and shared a beautiful blue eye. The shelter staff believed she was his mother. We were already full and had no room, but I just had to meet her. Yesterday, when I brought Cosmo home Popeye immediately ran to her. She came running to him with her tail wagging. It would have brought tears to your eyes. In that moment, I watched the light come back into both of them. These two had only known neglect their entire lives. They had been separated and were wondering what had happened to each other. Yesterday, for the first time, Popeye truly trusted me. He has been nothing but tail wags, happy barks, and playful zoomies ever since. He's happy to have his mother back, and she's happy to know where her baby went.
The hard reality is that Cosmo is also going to need surgery. She has a deformed front leg and paw that cause her pain, and we're hoping to have her evaluated to see if amputation is the best option for her. Truthfully, we didn't need another rescue facing a major surgery right now. We're already overwhelmed with medical cases, spays, neuters, and mounting vet bills. But when I met Cosmo, I couldn't say no. She deserved a chance. This is what keeps us going. This is why we fight so hard. Please help us continue making a difference in the lives of dogs like Popeye and Cosmo. They deserve all the happiness in the world, and we can't do it without you. ❤️
