🏡 H.O.P.E. IN ACTION: CONNECTICUT HOUSING CONFERENCE 2026! 🏡
Yesterday, Stacey from H.O.P.E. had the opportunity to attend the Connecticut Housing Conference at the Omni Hotel in New Haven! 💙
The event brought together state leaders, housing professionals, community advocates, and policymakers to discuss the future of housing in Connecticut, including affordable housing, homeownership, housing development, and solutions to the housing challenges facing our communities.
The event was led by Seila Mosquera-Bruno, Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Housing, and featured an impressive lineup of speakers and leaders, including:

🌟 A special shout-out to our friend and collaborator (yes, collaborator 😉😂), Julie Savin from ECHO! Julie was a speaker during one of the conference's breakout sessions, sharing valuable insights on partnering nonprofits with private developers.
The session offered practical tips and tricks, discussed potential pitfalls to avoid, and explored ways nonprofits and private developers can work together to create meaningful housing opportunities in our communities. These are exactly the kinds of conversations that help turn ideas into action! 👏🏽🏘️
It was also wonderful to see Mayor Michael Passero in attendance, and we appreciated the opportunity to connect with so many leaders and advocates who are committed to addressing Connecticut's housing needs.
At H.O.P.E., we know housing is about so much more than four walls and a roof. It's about stability, dignity, opportunity, and building stronger communities. ❤️

Last night, Stacey from H.O.P.E. was pleased to join our housing partners in New London for a panel discussion on the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act. 🏡

Organized by CFECT, with Maryam Ehlahni, the discussion brought together leaders from across Connecticut’s housing community to share perspectives on housing policy, challenges, and opportunities to expand access to affordable housing.

The panel was moderated by Beth Sabilia of the Center for Housing Opportunity Eastern CT (CHO-EC) and featured:

Opportunities like this allow us to learn from one another, share ideas, and continue working toward solutions that help individuals and families find safe, affordable homes in the communities they call home.

✨ Coming Together for a Great Cause! ✨

Keith Powell, H.O.P.E.’s new Neighborhood Housing Revitalization Coordinator (HNRC), and H.O.P.E. Board Member Maria French were honored to attend the United for Gemma Benefit Gala at the Mashantucket Pequot Museum, alongside our friends and housing partners at ECHO!

Events like these are so important to supporting the incredible organizations that work every day to strengthen our communities and make a difference in people’s lives. 💙 When organizations, supporters, and community members come together, we can accomplish so much more!

H.O.P.E. is grateful to be part of a community that believes in the power of partnership, compassion, and working together to create lasting change. 🏡

Last night, Stacey from H.O.P.E. was honored to attend the 2026 Immigrant Heritage Hall of Fame! 🇺🇸✨

The evening celebrated four incredible honorees, each with an inspiring story and a meaningful contribution to our communities.

For H.O.P.E., one of the highlights of the evening was celebrating Seila Mosquera-Bruno, Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Housing. Seila does extraordinary work for our state, and we are so grateful for her leadership and commitment to expanding housing opportunities for Connecticut residents. Her work makes a real difference in the lives of individuals and families, and we are proud to celebrate her accomplishments!

The evening included wonderful remarks from Susan Bysiewicz, Lieutenant Governor of Connecticut, and U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal, both of whom spoke highly of Seila's work and the important contributions she makes to our state. It was wonderful to see her dedication and leadership recognized on such a special occasion.

Held at the beautiful Aqua Turf Club, the event was exceptional from beginning to end, with delicious food, beautiful grounds, and a lovely atmosphere for celebrating these remarkable individuals.

Congratulations to all four honorees! What a wonderful evening celebrating the stories, achievements, and contributions that make Connecticut such a special place. ❤️

On Sunday, H.O.P.E. had the pleasure of attending the annual Mission Partners Sunday at Mystic Congregational Church.

This is such a special event because it brings together so many like-minded missions and organizations that are working to make our community stronger and more compassionate. It is always inspiring to see how our work connects and how much we can accomplish when we support one another.

The sermons by Rev. Christa Swenson and guest speaker Rev. Cathy Zahl, Executive Director of Homeless Hospitality Center in New London, were both inspiring and especially timely. Their words were a wonderful reminder of why this work matters and why community is so important.

It was also wonderful to connect with parishioners, H.O.P.E. supporters, and friends. And, of course, the food and hospitality were wonderful as always!

Mystic Congregational Church is such a welcoming and warm place, and I always leave feeling optimistic, encouraged, and happy to be part of a community that cares so deeply about helping others.

On Saturday, Stacey from H.O.P.E. had the honor of volunteering at the Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation Walk for a Cure. 💗

It was a beautiful day filled with strength, hope, and so many people coming together for an important cause. I’m grateful I could be there to support the walkers, volunteers, survivors, and families whose lives have been touched by breast cancer.

Sometimes the best way to make a difference is simply to show up. 💕

Another great event in New London! ❤️

I had the opportunity to visit “We Live Here: New London,” an exhibit at the Garde Arts Center exploring the past, present, and future of housing in our community.

It was amazing to see so much of New London’s housing history brought together in one place. But I was especially excited about the “What If” room and the out-of-the-box thinking around housing opportunities.

If what we were already doing was working 100%, we wouldn’t need so much housing.

Sometimes we have to be willing to think differently, try new approaches, and ask What if? That is where new possibilities can begin.

A huge thank you to Beth Sabilia and her team at the Center for Housing Opportunity Eastern Connecticut. Beth was instrumental in bringing this exhibit together with the Garde Arts Center and curator Anna Vallye, and it really shows. The thought and care that went into connecting New London’s housing history with the conversations we need to be having about housing today is impressive.

Beth and her team do such an amazing job supporting our community and working alongside nonprofit housing partners. They help create a space where organizations like H.O.P.E. can not only do the work we are doing today, but also think about what housing could look like tomorrow.

As someone who works in affordable housing every day, I loved seeing our community’s housing story told this way — recognizing where we’ve been, where we are, and imagining where we could go next. There was even a story of a H.O.P.E. House from 1992. What a great thing to see.

Today is what we work for at H.O.P.E. ❤️

Today, Giselle became a homeowner.

After closing on her Center Street home, Giselle officially took ownership of her new home — and Stacey got to do one of her very favorite things: hand the keys to a new homeowner. There really isn’t much Stacey loves more. 🏡🔑

And then Giselle surprised her with the most amazing (and hilarious!) thank-you gift. 😂❤️ We think it’s pretty safe to say the feeling is mutual.

This home represents so much more than a closing. It represents opportunity, stability, hard work, and the ability to build something of your own.

And it truly takes a village to make a H.O.P.E. home possible.

Some of the largest supporters of this build were Eversource and CHFA through the HTCC tax credits, Centreville Bank through the NAA tax credits, the City of New London through ARPA funds, and Peter Springsteel with Dependable Contracting, who helped bring the home to life.

There are so many more donors, partners, volunteers, and supporters who made this possible. Please take a look at our previous post where we thanked all of them. Every contribution matters, and H.O.P.E. could not do this work without the incredible village that stands behind us.

Today, though, we celebrate Giselle. ❤️

Last week, H.O.P.E. was honored to host the United Way of Southeastern Connecticut Electric Boat campaign volunteers as part of their Program Tour.

We had a wonderful turnout, and it was such a meaningful opportunity to show these volunteers what their support makes possible right here in our community. 💙

The group toured our latest home on Center Street, a complete transformation that we are incredibly proud of. We shared before-and-after photos and talked about the work that went into bringing this home back to life and creating an affordable opportunity for a local family.

We are especially excited because we are closing on the sale of this home this week! 🏡🔑

The new homeowner is a single mother of three who works as a dental assistant, and she is absolutely thrilled to become a homeowner. Her journey is exactly why we do what we do. She now has a safe, beautiful, affordable home for her family and the opportunity to build a future of her own.

The volunteers were genuinely moved by what they saw and heard. Many offered to help H.O.P.E. in whatever ways they can as we continue to grow our Reynard Program, which provides not just an affordable place to live, but the support, education, savings opportunities, and one-on-one guidance that help families move toward homeownership.

This is what a community looks like when people come together. Giving spirits, open hearts, and a willingness to help make a difference. 💙

❤️ An Evening of Appreciation for Tony Sheridan ❤️

Last week, H.O.P.E., Inc. had the pleasure of attending a wonderful evening at La Luna in New London, hosted by Catholic Charities, celebrating and honoring Tony Sheridan, CEO of the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut.

Tony has dedicated more than two decades to the Chamber and to our Eastern Connecticut community. After serving as President and CEO for many years, Tony recently passed the President role to Megan Gilbert and continues his work as CEO.

The evening brought together an incredible group of community leaders, including Presenter Tony Joyce, CEO of Chelsea Groton Bank, Norwich Mayor Swarnjit Singh, New London Mayor Michael Passero, Town of Groton Mayor Juliette Parker, City of Groton Mayor Jill Rusk, Senator Cathy Osten, and many other business and nonprofit leaders from throughout the region.

Tony received multiple awards, citations, and proclamations recognizing his years of leadership and service to Eastern Connecticut. By the end of the evening, Stacey was beginning to wonder if Tony had enough wall space left for everything he received! 😂🏆

The Chamber has been a tremendous supporter of local businesses and nonprofits throughout our region, and H.O.P.E. was honored to be a recipient of Chamber funding this year. We are truly grateful for that support and for the Chamber’s continued investment in organizations working to strengthen our communities.

It was a beautiful evening celebrating someone who has given so much of his time, energy, and leadership to Eastern Connecticut.

Congratulations, Tony, and thank you for all you have done — and continue to do — for our region. ❤️
