New London Landmarks

New London Landmarks New London Landmarks preserves and promotes New London's historic character through education, advocacy and the rehabilitation of historic structures.

New London Landmarks was formed in 1976 when it merged with Union Railroad Station Trust to save Henry Hobson Richardson’s 1888 Union Station and buildings on Bank Street which were threatened with demolition. In the 1990s, the group restored the David Bishop House at 49 Washington Street, where its office is located today. In addition to mobilizing to prevent the demolition of historic structures

, we offer educational programs, research properties and places and help connect owners of historic properties with potential funding sources. We are currently rehabilitating 23 Franklin Street and will sell it to an owner-occupant making 50% or less of area median income. We are also working with the City of New London to identify, research and write educational text for fifteen sites of significant Black history. Recent educational programs have included lectures by Richard Lenzi, author of "Facing the Dawn: the Italian Anarchits of New London" and by Mary Lycan and Tom Schuch on Ichabod Pease, who was born into slavery and opened a school for New London's Black children when he was eighty-one years old.
