Who We Are
The Thames West Auxiliary of Child & Family Agency is a group of volunteers who work together to raise awareness and critical unrestricted funds for the nonprofit agency whose mission is to “nurture children and families to develop their strengths through its service, partnership, and advocacy.” The Agency annually serves about 18,000 children and their families in its service area that reaches from southern Middlesex County to the Rhode Island border and north to Norwich, Connecticut.
Child & Family Agency’s system of auxiliaries traces its roots to 1944 when a group of 12 women joined forces to form the New London District Committee of the Connecticut Children’s Aid Society (the precursor to Child & Family Agency), with the purpose of aiding the Society and its work. This group eventually gave rise to Child and Family Agency’s auxiliaries, which are now organized in three shoreline areas from Essex to Stonington and boast some 500 members who volunteer time and talent to care for children, support fundraising activities, and participate in education services.
The Thames West Auxiliary is a recently formed group that includes the former Lyme/Old Lyme, East Lyme, and New London/Waterford auxiliaries.
