HAVE TROUBLE AFFORDING INTERNET?

GetInternet.gov - This is a new program from the Biden-Harris Administration to make high-speed internet more affordable for low-income households. The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) provides eligible households $30 per month off their internet bills. They have also secured commitments from 20 internet providers to offer ACP-eligible households a high-speed internet plan for no more than $30 per month. Eligible families who pair their ACP benefits with one of these plans can receive high-speed internet at no cost.

There are 3 ways to be eligible for this program: if you are at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines, if you or someone in your household participates in programs like SNAP, SSI, Medicaid, etc., or if you meet the eligibility criteria for a broadband provider's existing low-income program.

You can learn more about this program, participating internet providers, etc on GetInternet.gov

"Broadband Town Hall" this Friday at 10am or 2pm EST. This event is funded by and hosted in partnership with members of the Appalachian Funders Network.

The town hall will include two identical sessions, each 60-90 minutes, with one beginning at 10:00 am EST (https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82024700332) and the other at 2:00 pm EST (https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82633990513).

The goal of this event is to connect elected officials with prominent, grassroots community leaders in Central Appalachian states to inform congressional consideration of broadband buildout and to address existing broadband issues within rural communities.

We have invited members of Congress from six Appalachian states, and committees with jurisdiction on broadband, to this Town Hall to participate in a discussion about rural broadband buildout. Details of this event are outlined in the attached invitation.

Please feel free to circulate this invitation among your networks. A strong showing on behalf of Central Appalachia's communities will send a message to our federal partners that we take this topic seriously.

🎉👇good news!

A proposal at the state level to limit local governments in providing broadband services was removed from the final budget agreement. Municipal customers and local officials lobbied vigorously against the effort.
