First Meeting of 2026

The Perry County Police Chief’s Association (PCPCA) held its first meeting of 2026 on January 6, 2026, at the New Lexington Police Department. The meeting was well attended and focused on strengthening communication, collaboration, and transparency between local law enforcement agencies, the courts, elected officials, and community partners throughout Perry County.

Meeting Summary

Auditor’s Office Update:
Perry County Auditor Derek Householder provided updates on upcoming tax law changes that may impact municipal general funds. He also reminded agencies that it is dog license season and highlighted the county dog license database housed at the county dispatch center and his website, which can be utilized to assist in identifying and returning lost pets to their owners.


Common Pleas Court and Community Control:
Common Pleas Court Judge Tina Boyer, Magistrate Jamie Farmer, and Chief Probation Officer Dan Starlin discussed court operations, probation supervision practices, and the availability of community service workers for local municipalities. Productive dialogue focused on Civil Protection Orders (CPOs), officer safety considerations, and improving the accuracy and timeliness of CPO information entered into law enforcement databases. The court and chiefs agreed to continue working toward a standardized process to enhance information sharing between the court and local police agencies.


Housing and Homelessness:
Dave Weber, representing the Perry County Housing Coalition, provided an overview of homelessness challenges in Perry County and discussed the upcoming Point-in-Time (PIT) Count scheduled later this month. He outlined the coordinated process used to assist individuals experiencing homelessness and invited agencies to attend the coalition’s monthly meetings, held on the third Wednesday of each month at the St. Rose Community Building in New Lexington.


Legislative Engagement:
State Representative Kevin Miller (District 69) attended to listen and engage in discussion regarding legislative issues impacting law enforcement leadership, including concerns related to police chief removal processes, due process, and leadership stability. He welcomed continued dialogue with Perry County law enforcement officials.


Training and Grant Updates:
Chris Chesar, OTSO Southeast Ohio Law Enforcement Liaison, discussed upcoming regional training opportunities for Perry County agencies and advised that additional information regarding the JAG Grant is expected in the coming weeks.


State and Federal Outreach:
Nick Ulan, Deputy Regional Director for Southeast Ohio from the Office of Senate Jon Husted, introduced himself and encouraged departments to contact his office for assistance, coordination, or legislative support.

The Perry County Police Chief’s Association looks forward to continued collaboration in 2026 as agencies work together to enhance public safety, strengthen partnerships, and better serve the residents of Perry County.

Perry County Police Chiefs Association Holds Monthly Meeting
November 7, 2025

The Perry County Police Chiefs Association held its monthly meeting on Tuesday, November 5, 2025. Chiefs from across the county were in attendance, with the exception of Shawnee and Corning. The meeting included several guest speakers who provided important updates and information relevant to law enforcement and the Perry County community.

Judge Luann Cooperrider addressed the association, sharing information on the various intervention and prevention programs offered through her court, including Horsepower, V**e Court, and U-Turn. She also discussed probate and juvenile court operations and highlighted the Legal Clinics she organizes throughout the year. Judge Cooperrider announced that in February she will host a special “Wills for Veterans” event to assist local servicemembers and their families.

Attorney Steve Carr, a candidate for Common Pleas Court Judge, spoke to the group about current challenges facing local law enforcement and the court system. Discussion topics included civil protection orders and the use of community service programs within the county.

Bradley Kennedy from the Ohio Attorney General’s Office provided updates on statewide law enforcement initiatives, including the opening of the Bulletproof Vest Grant, the upcoming 2026 CPT Training, and a new OPOTA Refresher Course beginning in January. This two-week course will allow former officers whose certifications have not been suspended to regain their credentials. Kennedy also discussed upcoming school safety grant opportunities.

During the business portion of the meeting, the Chiefs discussed several local topics, including:

The new CAD system implementation.

Planning a potential “Shop with a Hero” or “Shop with a Cop” event in partnership with Meijer of Lancaster.

Ongoing efforts to improve recruitment and hiring countywide, with a focused recruitment initiative planned for 2026.

Updates on mobile data terminals (MDTs) in police cruisers.

Planning and scheduling of guest speakers for 2026.

The Perry County Police Chiefs Association remains committed to collaboration, community engagement, and advancing the standards of professional law enforcement throughout the county.

Perry County Police Chiefs Hold Regular Meeting

On September 4, 2025, the Perry County Police Chiefs held their regularly scheduled meeting. Chiefs from Roseville, Somerset, Junction City, Crooksville, New Straitsville, and New Lexington were in attendance.

The meeting included several guest speakers who shared important updates and resources for law enforcement and the community:
• Lisa Taylor, representing the Ohio Secretary of State’s Office, spoke about the Ohio Safe at Home Program, which provides address confidentiality protections for victims of crime.
• Lisa Garey, from the Perry County Health Department, highlighted upcoming initiatives including a car seat safety class, flu shot clinic, and Project DAWN for overdose prevention.
• Chris Chesar, Southeast Ohio Law Enforcement Liaison with the Ohio Traffic Safety Office (OTSO), presented information on upcoming training opportunities related to sovereign citizens and officer wellness.
• Bradley Kennedy, from the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, discussed (LETT) training and updates regarding the body armor grant program.

In addition to the guest presentations, the chiefs discussed various topics including updates on MARCS, SOLVE , and plans for upcoming training sessions to be hosted at the New Lexington Police Department.

The Perry County Police Chiefs continue to meet regularly to strengthen cooperation among local departments, share resources, and ensure the safety and well-being of all Perry County residents.
