We were thrilled to host our 2025 Community Foundation for Perry County grant recipients, recognizing over 25 organizations. Since 2014, over $200,000 in grants have been awarded to support local initiatives throughout Perry County.

CFPC grants are improving health, creating educational opportunities, advancing economic development and environmental stewardship, and expanding access to arts and cultural experiences.

Congratulations to all the grant recipients!

This Giving Tuesday, we are proud to celebrate an extraordinary act of generosity as part of our Fill the Freezer initiative. Ben and Katrina Carpenter donated one of their longhorns to be butchered and turned into beef for families in need right here in Perry County.

Their gift directly supports our mission to keep the pantry shelves β€” and freezers β€” stocked for local households facing food insecurity. Because of their kindness, many families will have access to high-quality protein throughout the season.

Thank you, Ben and Katrina, for helping us Fill the Freezer and nourish our community. πŸ’›πŸ‚

CFPC Board members Jessica Emmert, Julie Paxton, and John Winnenberg joined United Way CEO Tracey Ballas for a visit to the New Straitsville Food Pantry, where CFPC-donated freezers were stocked with sausage from this year’s Fill the Freezer campaign. Tanya Miller and the group of dedicated volunteers shared how community support is critical as the need continues to grow.

Today, we join Philanthropy Ohio and nonprofit organizations across the state in celebrating Julie Paxton, our friend and fellow champion for Appalachian Ohio, as the 2025 Philanthropy Innovation Award recipient.

A longtime Community Foundation for Perry County (CFPC) committee member, Julie is being honored as the driving force behind CFPC’s Fill the Freezer campaign. What started as a simple idea in Perry County – fighting food insecurity, one pig at a time – is now a hunger-fighting movement spanning seven counties served by FAO affiliate foundation partners. Over the past five years, these campaigns have generated 90,000+ pounds of locally raised protein to feed our neighbors!

Julie would be the first to credit the many faces and forces behind Fill the Freezer – from other affiliate foundation leaders at CFPC and throughout the region to the campaign’s partners and supporters. But her vision, commitment and mentorship – including to our Growing Home Fellows who are supporting the campaign in several counties – have been instrumental every step of the way.

Congratulations, Julie! And thank you for your legacy of generosity and leadership that ripples across Perry County, Appalachian Ohio and, now, our entire state.
