*pardon the mess!!* We've been quiet, but we've been busy collecting diapers across New Kent to prepare for our first distribution event!

While we finish planning, we're working to get our inventory sheet online - this will serve as an easy way for folks to see what size diapers we have in stock and where there is a need.

More Soon! 🙂

There are a few ways you can help NKDC get started:

💜 Follow New Kent Diaper Collective on Instagram and Facebook, then share our pages with your friends and family.

💜 Support this work and donate funds or items to help us get started.

Donate Diapers: If you have new or “like new” (unused but loose) diapers, email [email protected] and I’ll arrange to pick them up.

Donate Funds: I’m raising $ to purchase diapers + supplies to help seed our first distribution event and kick off collection sites
I’ll be posting donation and purchase receipts on NKDC social media to ensure transparency and accountability.

Interested in supporting the Diaper Collective financially? Email [email protected] to donate or for more information.

Please note, NKDC is working to create a mutual aid network to redistribute resources and is not a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization - donations are not tax deductible.

💜 Get involved. Email [email protected] if you want to volunteer with us! We’ll need folks to pick up, sort, and package diaper deliveries, and help us spread the word about distribution events (put up flyers, share social media posts, etc.)

I appreciate any and all support as I work to get this project off the ground!

Who is behind NKDC? - My name is Sara - I'm mom to Ruby, 14 months. I’ve worked full-time in the nonprofit sector for the last decade, primarily with community-service focused organizations. I hold a Masters Degree in Fundraising and currently work as the Operations Director at the Innerwork Center in Richmond. My husband and I moved to Quinton in June of this year and we live in the Woodhaven neighborhood. I know first-hand how expensive kids are (kids? In this economy!?)... especially when it comes to diapers. And it’s a shame that any family should have to choose between paying the bills, putting food on the table, and buying diapers for their children. That’s why I’m working to launch the New Kent Diaper Collective - a grassroots, volunteer group dedicated to leading diaper collection + distribution events across New Kent County!

Did you know...
- The 2021 "Diaper Gap" report from the The National Diaper Bank Network (NDBN) highlighted that 64% of low-income families report struggling to afford diapers, often having to make difficult choices between buying diapers and other essential needs like food or utilities.
- A 2022 report by NDBN estimates that a typical family with an infant spends between $70 to $80 per month on diapers. For families with multiple children or low incomes, this cost can be a significant burden.

But guess what? It doesn't have to be this way! We can make a difference right here in our community.
