Eagle Scout Neil Armstrong, the first man on the moon, actually radioed into a Boy Scouts of America National Jamboree on his way to the moon in 1969: "Hello to all my fellow Scouts at Farragut State Park in Idaho…Apollo 11 would like to send them best wishes."

Fact 1: The First Boy Scout was a British Baron
Robert Baden-Powell was a colonel in the British Army during the second Boer War in 1899. When he and his troops found themselves surrounded—and vastly outnumbered—by the Dutch colonists, Baden-Powell enlisted a local cadet corps, 12- to 15-year-olds who wore khaki uniforms and wide-brimmed hats (sound familiar?) to help out. The boys relayed messages and acted as guards and literal scouts, leaving Baden-Powell's adult troops free to fight.

Troop 134 will be conducting a flag retirement ceremony on Thursday, October 18th, 2018.
The ceremony will be held at the Lower Burrell VFW on Wildlife Lodge Road. Ceremony will begin at 6:30PM.
This event is open to the public and Veterans are encouraged to attend.

The BSA Launches Historic “Scout Me In” Campaign Inviting Girls and Boys to Experience Adventures Through a Cub Scout’s Point of View

“Scouts BSA” Also Unveiled as the Name of the Program for Older Boys and Girls to Ensure All Youth Are Welcome and Can See Themselves in Scouting. The parent organization will remain the Boy Scouts of America, and the Cub Scouts — its program for 7- to 10-year-olds — will keep its title, as well.

The Boy Scouts of America is excited to announce the new Scouting mobile app, which is now available for both iPhone and Android devices.

Scouting makes it easier than ever for youth and their parents to view and track advancement in the Cub Scouting and Boy Scouting programs—as well as youth recognition in the Venturing program. The app pulls existing advancement data straight from Scoutbook for viewing.

The initial release of the app contains the following functions:
- Track a Scout’s advancement
- Track logs like service hours, hiking, and camping
- View parent and/or Scout profile
- Submit feedback
- Provide parent access to your Scouts’ accounts

If you find any issues with the new Scouting app, we invite you to use the “Submit Feedback” feature in the app at the “gear” icon.

New BSA Youth Protection Rollout

By October 1, 2018, all new and currently registered leaders will be required to complete the updated training. The enhanced and updated content will allow leaders and councils to comply with all current legal requirements. While this may be inconvenient for some, it reflects the BSA’s commitment to the safety of all youth. You must have a my.scouting account to take the training, but BSA registration is not required. BSA chartering organizations are welcome to take the training free of charge.

Since 1910, boys across America have been doing good deeds, learning survival skills and developing moral foundations through the Boy Scout of America. February 8th annually recognizes National Boy Scout Day.

On a foggy day in London an American newspaperman, William Dickson Boyce, became lost when a Boy Scout came to his assistance. With the boy’s guidance, Boyce arrived at his destination. When Boyce offered payment for the assistance, the Boy Scout refused explaining it was a good deed. Boyce was inspired to organize similar youth groups into one organization.

On February 8, 1910, Boyce filed papers of incorporation, and the Boy Scouts of America was born. The Boy Scouts have had a profound impact on the United States.
