CASA in Louisiana

The first CASA program in Louisiana began in 1986 in Orleans Parish. Currently there are 18 programs serving 55 parishes in Louisiana. In 2012 1,789 dedicated volunteers served 3,480 children, donating service hours valued at $1.8 million. Louisiana CASA Association (LACASA) grew out of an informal association of CASA program directors throughout the state. In 1994, LACASA was i

ncorporated as a private 501(c)(3) organization. Membership is open to all CASA programs active in Louisiana that are members of National CASA. Membership categories include CASA volunteer, individual, associate, CASA program and honorary. All existing CASA programs are members of NCASAA and LACASA, and participate in the organization’s activities.

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, to enforce Abraham Lincoln’s order to end slavery in the rebelling state farthest west

It’s been observed as a day to honor this history and celebrate Black culture and resilience, and it officially became a federal holiday in 2021.

In observance of the holiday, our office will be closed on June 19th. We’ll be back on Monday, June 22nd. We hope you have a meaningful and joyful Juneteenth!

The children we serve often face the most complex and difficult situations, but they don’t face them alone. CASA volunteers stay by their side, advocating for safe, permanent homes. Whether that means reunification, adoption, or another path, our volunteers ensure the child’s best interest is always at the center.

Without school routines and trusted adults like teachers, summer can be especially vulnerable for children in foster care. CASA volunteers help fill that gap—checking in, speaking up, and making sure no child falls through the cracks.

Every June 14th, we celebrate the Stars and Stripes on Flag Day. While we’re all familiar with the United States’ flag, we might not know all of the history behind this symbol.

To celebrate, we wanted to share a few fun facts about the history of the flag that might surprise you:

🔹 The current 50-star design was created by a 17-year-old. Robert G. Heft of Lancaster, Ohio, submitted the design as a high school project in 1958. It was chosen by President Eisenhower out of more than 3,000 submissions in 1960.

🔹 There have been 27 official versions of the flag. Twenty-five of those changes were solely to update the number of stars every time a new state joined the Union. The star additions were admitted on July 4th, and, together, they give us a rich visual history of the country's growth over time.

🔹 The colors for the flag have taken on their own meanings over the years. Charles Thomson, secretary of the Continental Congress in 1774, suggested that red represents hardiness and valor, white symbolizes purity and innocence, and blue stands for vigilance, perseverance, and justice.

🔹 Six American flags have been planted on the moon. Neil Armstrong and Edwin E. “Buzz” Aldrin were the first, but five additional Apollo missions have also left a flag on the lunar surface.

🔹 The current design is the longest-running version in history. No new states have been added since Hawaii joined the union in 1959, making this the most enduring flag design the country has ever had.

Wishing you a wonderful Flag Day filled with pride and appreciation for the history behind the flag we share.

June is Pride Month, a time to celebrate identity, uplift voices, and recognize the resilience of LGBTQ+ youth, including those in foster care. These young people often face unique challenges like rejection, discrimination, and isolation. CASA volunteers can be the affirming, consistent presence they need to feel seen, heard, and valued. Advocacy means showing up for all children.
