Everyone at Can Do Canines sends our condolences to the loved ones of RJ Mitte following the news of his passing. RJ was a bright light and a passionate advocate for people with disabilities. Though he didn’t have an assistance dog of his own, he recognized the transformative impact these dogs have on people's lives and was a true champion for Can Do Canines and our mission. He spoke at our Team 1,000 Celebration earlier this year and helped us publicly launch our Unleashing Independence Capital Campaign. Our hearts go out to everyone grieving this profound loss.

In 2016, as her kids were going off to college, Lynne Kaufman saw a national news segment on service dogs. Intrigued, she began researching organizations nearby, landing on Can Do Canines. With her husband, Rob, in tow, they attended a graduation, and that’s what sealed the deal. Lynne says, “We dove in and decided to Puppy Raise for two years right off the bat. Sheldon was our first dog, and we learned everything together. He was amazing. After attending Sheldon's graduation and witnessing the amazing bond he has with his forever person, we were hooked.” Follow the link to read more about how volunteer Lynne Kaufman contributes to Can Do Canines. Thank you, Lynne!

Teena was moving on a four-wheeler at age 14, nearly 30 years ago, when she was in a severe accident. She experienced a degloved face, two broken arms, and her first time losing consciousness. She says, “Over the next 30 years, I continued to pass out sporadically, though I rarely hit the ground.” However, “On May 25, 2020, our 23rd wedding anniversary, I passed out, falling off the front porch and hitting my head while my husband watched from afar. That moment changed everything.” Follow the link below to read more about how Mobility Assist Dog Jo helped Teena maintain a busy lifestyle and also provided some peace.

“An object at rest remains at rest, and an object in motion remains in motion.” This is part of one of Sir Isaac Newton’s laws of motion. As Teena explains, it is also true for people with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). “You have to move,” she says.  Teena was moving ...
