Pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports in the country—and now it’s coming to the Y for youth in grades 3–8! 🎉

📅 Registration: September 20 – October 20
🏓 Season: October 27 – November 24

📍 Practices:
Grades 3–5: Mondays, 5:30–6:30 PM
Grades 6–8: Mondays, 6:30–7:30 PM

This developmental program is designed to introduce kids to the fun and fundamentals of pickleball in a supportive, team-focused environment. Whether they’re new to the sport or looking to sharpen their skills, this is a chance to learn, play, and grow together. 💪

🎉 Youth in Motion Program Launch!

On Tuesday, Jaysa Angles, the Health and Wellness Director, successfully launched our brand-new Youth in Motion program, training six young men in gym safety, proper etiquette, basic exercises and form, main muscles groups and the fundamentals of exercise equipment in the Wellness Center.

After completing their training and passing a quiz, participants received certificates and are now officially able to use the Wellness Center — either with a guardian over 18 (for ages 10–12) or independently (for ages 13–15).

A devotion to duty in the face of near certain death: American physician Dr. Dilip Joseph was captured by the Taliban in Kabul. On the night of 8 Dec 2012, then Chief Edward C. Byers Jr. (The team’s Corpsman) and his unit were inserted by helicopter to rescue the hostages. They hiked more than four hours over difficult terrain to reach the compound where the Taliban were holding the hostages. Despite the darkness, a guard spotted the SEALs within roughly 75 feet of the compound and raised an alarm. Petty Officer 1st Class Nicolas D. Checque sprinted forward, killed the guard, and entered the compound with Byers just steps behind.

Once inside the compound, Checque was shot by a Taliban fighter from within the single room where the hostages were held. Undeterred, Byers burst into the room, shooting dead the fighter. Byers tackled another insurgent who went for a rifle. Byers killed the insurgent he was straddling and then hurled himself on top of Joseph to shield him from a high volume of fire inside the small room. While shielding Joseph, Byers pinned another militant to the wall with a hand to the throat until another SEAL shot him.

Byers attempted to resuscitate Checque for 40 minutes upon return to Bagram airfield.

Byers was awarded the Medal of Honor.

Brethren,

In light of the outstanding success of the Ohio State football team and their upcoming game on January 10, 2025, New Holland Lodge No. 392 has decided to reschedule our annual inspection in the Entered Apprentice Degree. The new date for this important event will be Friday, February 28, 2025.

This adjustment allows us to accommodate our members and guests who wish to support the Buckeyes during this exciting time. As always, all Masons are warmly welcome to attend our inspection.
