Poplar Branch Beagle Club

Poplar Branch Beagle Club AKC Gun Dog Club. Members can train there beagles in an enclosed area. No rabbits can be harvested. Both are two-day trials.

Poplar Branch Beagle Club has been holding field trials since 1992. The club owns land with a clubhouse and a hundred-acre fenced running pen in Aiken County near New Holland. The club has about two dozen members, who meet monthly throughout the year. Officers for 2012-2013 are: John Hodson, President; Jimmy Simpson, Vice President; Phil Furtick, Secretary and Treasurer; and Barbara Brooks, Field

Trial Secretary. Currently, the club holds two AKC licensed field trials annually: a Small Pack Option trial on the first weekend in January and a Gundog Brace trial on the last week-end in February. Participants come mainly from Georgia and the Carolinas, but also from more distant states, including Tennessee, Virginia, and Maryland. Each of our 2012 trials attracted about 150 entries. Our SPO trial in January, 2013 had 201entries. All of the trials are advertised in Hounds and Hunting (the main national publication for AKC beagle field trials, described as “The Beagler’s Bible”), and the results are later published there. We are grateful for continuing sponsorship by Mike Carr and Pride Dog Food.
