Juneteenth on the Green: Shim Sham!
This Saturday, join ECSB on the New Haven Green for some dancing as part of a larger celebration of Juneteenth hosted by the New Haven Free Public Library. JiJi will be giving a short talk about New Haven jazz and Black American vernacular dance history to accompany the performances, and we invite you to participate in the Shim Sham (and possibly a jam circle!). Wear outdoor dance shoes, as dance participation will be on grass.

We were thrilled to have 28 attendees at last Saturday's beginner bootcamp!

A big thank you to Nell for the excellent introduction to Blues, 6-Count Swing, and Charleston.

And thank you to everyone who braved the cold weather and joined us for the day. It was lovely to meet you and dance with you, and we hope to see you again soon!

If you missed the bootcamp, you still have a chance to join us for our Intro to Swing series running through February. We can't wait to dance with everyone!

Yale Swing, Blues, and Fusion (YSBF) will now be known as Elm City Swing and Blues (ECSB).

After thorough discussion of our mission and values as a group, we have decided the most viable way to sustain and support our dance community is to transition from a Yale University club to a community dance organization. We have decided to part from Yale in order to fulfill the full potential of our organization to more widely and equitably serve our dance community. We strive to share the joy of the swing community with everyone, in the true spirit of Lindy Hop and social dance, while paying homage to the city that has nurtured us for over a decade.

Elm City Swing and Blues will continue to host our weekly dances and special workshops as best serves our local communities. As part of the transition, we will be announcing new locations for our dance events in the near future. Our current leadership is grateful for the long and storied history of YSBF as a part of the larger Yale community, and equally grateful for our dance community members who have sustained this vibrant arts group. We hope at ECSB that you will continue to support us as we make this transition.
