Woodbridge Neighbors for Responsible Development would like to thank everyone who stopped by our table last night at the concert. We hadn’t made a big deal about our presence there in advance because of the two important town meetings going on: the Board of Selectmen meeting where we asked the town to stop the developer of the proposed Beecher apartments from trying to bypass our capable Inland Wetlands Agency and move his application to the State DEEP. For more than three years, he has been trying to dodge the rules and regulations of our town – the same ones the rest of us have to follow.
And, then there was the Special Town Meeting to vote on the affordable housing proposal on Lucy Street - a project that our team wholeheartedly supported, as did our great town as evidenced by the unanimous and enthusiastic YES vote.
The predatory Beecher developer has tried to paint our town as elitist and opposed to affordable housing. We’re not. We just oppose irresponsible projects like his that will cause harm to our town and not properly support those who most need these units.
Together we can protect our town and work towards responsible, sustainable, helpful development!

Special Town Meeting - Wednesday, July 8th at 7 PM

LOCATION CHANGE

Residents are invited to attend a Special Town Meeting on Wednesday, July 8, at 7 pm in the CENTER CAFE to consider a proposed long-term lease agreement for the Warner Elderly Housing, an age-restricted housing community located on Lucy Street.

The proposed agreement is intended to provide long-term stability for the property as well as state funding for much-needed complex improvements while supporting the continued availability of affordable housing options for older residents in our community.

😡 DEREK THE DEVELOPER PULLED ANOTHER SLEAZY TRICK: BEECHER ROAD APARTMENT COMPLEX PUBLIC HEARING CANCELLED - AGAIN! And he’s trying to take the decision away from the town.😖
On July 15, the Inland Wetlands Agency was scheduled to decide on the 100-unit apartment building proposed for 27 Beecher Rd. This was to be a public hearing where we, the residents of Woodbridge, could provide public comment and written letters.
It was scheduled for June 17, but because the town did not provide a public notice in a timely fashion, it had to be rescheduled for July. Now the attorney for the developer (and I use that term with tongue in cheek because it should be the destroyer) has advised that the Town missed the deadline by which they were to make a decision on this project, and thus they are turning the project over to the DEEP for action/decision!! Essentially taking away our rights as residents to have a say in how our town is developed.
The developer has been playing games with the Town, trying to dodge the usual rules and procedures by which any reasonable town is governed - for the last year on Beecher Road and for more than three years on Luciani Street.
Repeatedly withdrawing and resubmitting applications with minor tweaks has enabled him to extend the application process, but now he’s trying to beat the system.
