Neighborhood Housing Services of New Haven Empowering Families. Revitalizing Neighborhoods. NHS is a member of the NeighborWorks America Organization.

We believe that increased homeownership, educated homebuyers, and rehabilitated houses will produce stable, revitalized neighborhoods that our clients will be proud to call home. During the course of our 37-year history, NHS has fully renovated and sold nearly 450 units to low- and moderate-income families.

Connecticut Climate Fest 🌱

Our Community Building & Organizing team welcomed 2nd graders from Lincoln Bassett School to the community garden for a hands-on day of learning and exploring. Students harvested and tasted fresh vegetables, spread mulch, learned how to safely use gardening tools, and discovered the important roles that composting plays in gardening 🐝🪱

It was a fun day of curiosity, teamwork, and connecting with nature right in our community! 🌿

The HomeOwnership Center recently hosted an estate planning workshop to help community members learn how they can protect their homes and assets and create generational wealth.

Attendees learned about wills and trusts, the probate process, what happens to your home and other assets if you pass away without a will, and the importance of having an estate plan in place.

A special thank you to Attorney Sallie Blackman for sharing her expertise and helping our community better understand the estate planning process!

Please join us in welcoming our new Director of Resource Development and Communications, Barton Darney!

Barton leads resource development and communications at Neighborhood Housing Services of New Haven, driving the funding strategy and partnerships that fuel NHS’s work building stronger, more sustainable neighborhoods. She brings years of fundraising experience in education and arts organizations to the role, with a track record of turning relationships into resources that move mission-driven work forward. Originally from San Francisco, Barton now calls Madison, Connecticut home, where she lives with her two sons and their dog and cat.

Please join us in welcoming our new HomeEnergy ConneCT Data Management VISTA, Leah Mueller!

Leah is a recent graduate from the University of Vermont with a degree in Sustainability, Ecology, and Policy. Prior to joining NHS, Leah gained experience as a Solar Market and Policy Research Summer Intern for a private solar developer, she was the Climate Resilience and Engagement Intern for the Vermont Climate Action Office, and a Research Assistant in the University of Vermont’s Department of Political Science. She has presented her research “Conflicting Fairness Ideas in Living Wage Law Conflicts: Investigating the DC Large Retailer Accountability Act” as a panelist at the 2026 New England Political Science Association’s annual conference.

Throughout her year-long term with NHS, Leah is working to streamline data systems and processes to advance the HomeEnergy ConneCT program’s efficiency, impact, and customer experience.

In her free time, you can find Leah hiking, biking, gardening, and camping or spending time on the couch knitting and crafting with her two cats.
